The Champions League returns on Tuesday night with European’s biggest and best teams in action for the third time in the 2017/18 Group Stages. The Acca Tips team have located what we believe to be incredible value in our football tips for tonight, finding a wonderfully priced double from APOEL v Borussia Dortmund in Group H and Manchester City v Napoli in Group F.
Here are our selections for this Tuesday’s Accumulator Tips double:
Peter Bosz has done a magnificent job silencing his critics after replacing Thomas Tuchel as Borussia Dortmund manager in the summer. The Dutchman was somewhat of a shock candidate for the job following a moderate year with Ajax, but Bosz has began life in Dortmund by taking der BVB to the top of the Bundesliga table. Amazingly, BVB haven’t won the German first division since the 2011/12 season under enigmatic coach Jurgen Klopp. Unfortunately for Bosz, life in the Champions League hasn’t been quite as vibrant as his domestic career.
With back-to-back losses to Spurs and Real Madrid, Dortmund are already looking unlikely to make the knockout stages with a six-point gap to close. The trip to APOEL provides a great platform for BVB to find their feet in Europe and a big opportunity to close in on either or both of Spurs and Madrid.
APOEL had to qualify via three qualifying stages just to reach this point in the tournament and have already lost 3-0 in consecutive matches against Real Madrid and Tottenham. At the time of writing and researching, the Cypriots have already lost two of their five domestic matches against Apollon Limassol and Anorthosis.
Dortmund have scored 21 goals across seven league games this campaign, conceding just two in the process. As touched upon, Nicosia have already conceded six in two group stage matches without any response and it’s hard to envision then breaking Dortmund down, regardless of whether the fixture is a home or away contest. The visitors have goals in abundance with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leading the forward line and the likes of Maximilian Philipp, Christian Pulisic, Andriy Yarmolenko and Shinji Kagawa in support.
Dortmund have already surpassed the -2 handicap in four of their eight league matches this campaign and we can’t see APOEL putting up much of a fight here with qualification looking less and less likely. Take 8/5 on offer for Borussia Dortmund on the -2 handicap in your Betfair accumulator. The visitors must win by three or more goals for this bet to be successful.
Our second selection takes us to Manchester’s Etihad Stadium, where Pep Guardiola’s soaring Manchester City side host Italy’s free-flowing league leaders Napoli.
Essentially, Tuesday’s contest is THE battle between two frantically attacking football sides. At the time of writing, Man City are the current Premier League top scorers with 22 goals to their name, while Napoli possess the Serie A equivalent crown finding the net an outrageous 25 times. Maurizio Sarri’s side have found the net at least three times in all seven of their league matches in the early stages, conceding just five goals altogether. Napoli are slowly but surely putting serious doubts to Juventus’s title credentials with seven wins on the trot now.
Man City’s record certainly isn’t much worse in a considerably more difficult league. Despite already facing champions Chelsea and Liverpool, City are averaging over three goals per game and have conceded two in seven in the process. Even without Sergio Aguero for the time-being, the Citizens have remarkable attacking quality in Gabriel Jesus, Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling, among others. Napoli’s top scorers Dries Mertens, Lorenzo Insigne and Jose Callejon pose a potent threat themselves, offering a tremendous blend of pace, technique and understanding on the counter attack.
Both teams have been electrifying in their domestic divisions and have found the net in each of their Champions League outings so far. Napoli have already conceded to Shakhtar Donetsk and Feyenoord and it would be a surprise to see them contain City – it’s just not in their nature. City may have began the season with a strong portfolio of clean sheets, but they haven’t faced a side like Napoli yet – Gli Azzurri could well be compared to Monaco who City struggled against last season. Back both teams to score here at a best price of 6/13 in your 888 accumulator.
