One fixture arriving on the opening weekend of the Premier League is between Manchester United and West Ham United. Many other games will have run their course before this fixture kicks off on Sunday. We at Accumulator Tips have picked out two key bets ahead of this clash.
Manchester United will be hoping to improve on last seasons performance after a sixth placed finish. Although their league position didn’t confirm them a Champions League place this season, winning the Europa League did. They beat Ajax in the final to confirm their spot this season.
As well as that, they did win the Community Shield and League Cup. Not bad but they still would have wanted to finish higher than sixth in the table.
West Ham United ended up in 11th place last season and also moved into the London Stadium. Finishing where they did was not an improvement on the season prior to that as they ended up seventh for the 2015/16 season. Hammers boss Slaven Bilic will be hoping to make amends this season.
Man United have spent big money this summer after seeing players leave the club. Wayne Rooney returned to his boyhood club, Everton and Adnan Januzaj transferred to Spanish side, Real Sociedad. Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s contract expired as he suffered an injury although he is still being treated by the club. Depending on his injury he could sign a new contract in the near future.
The Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho has also brought in three players estimating to a total of £180-200m. These players are Romelu Lukaku, Nemanja Matic and Victor Lindelof. It just shows the calibre that Manchester United have in getting the players they want to play top level football.
West Ham has seen plenty of action during the summer so far. Twelve players saw their way out of the club with The Hammers receiving £11.5m in agreed fees while other deals were undisclosed. Players bought into the club include Pablo Zabaleta, Marko Arnautovic, Anouar El Mhassani, Javier Hernandez and Sead Haksabanovic. In total, West Ham has spent around £40m.
Manchester United v West Ham United Match Preview
Man United have won six out of seven friendlies this summer only losing to Barcelona. As well as this they also lost in the UEFA Super Cup Final to Real Madrid 2-1. They have managed to play plenty of games preparing for the new season.
Long term injured players, Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw and Ashley Young were pictured in training before the Super Cup Final. It will be a matter of time before all three will be back from their injuries.
Touring Germany and Austria was part of West Ham’s preseason schedule only winning once against Fulham. The Hammers also lost to Man city in Iceland.
They have a number of injury problems. Aaron Creswell and Manuel Lanzini are slight doubts while Sofiane Feghouli is a major doubt ahead of their fixture with Manchester United. Cheikhou Kouyate, Diafra Sakho, Andy Carroll and Michail Antonio will still be missing through injuries.
