It has recently been reported that German international Mesut Ozil has plans to leave Arsenal. Losing his starting place for Arsene Wenger’s side isn’t what the creative midfielder had hoped for as he firmly believes Jose Mourinho is interested in him.
Ozil joined Arsenal back in 2013 where he left from Real Madrid. He broke the club’s record transfer fee of £42.5 million. Playing over 100 league games, the creative playmaker scored 19 league goals for Los Blancos. During his time there, Jose Mourinho was in charge. Throughout Ozil’s time at Madrid, he formed a relationship with Mourinho. Sold to Arsenal in 2013 there were no hard feelings. Knowing he needed a new challenge would kick-start his career once more.
Now Ozil has managed to play over 120 Premier League games for the Gunners and has scored 23 times. The 29-year-old is now finding times at Arsenal difficult as we have already witnessed certain results this season. They are currently sixth with thirteen points after eight games. Some would say that isn’t good enough for Arsenal’s standards.
Losing to Stoke, Liverpool and Watford will back Ozil’s reasons for being unhappy. Results like these are starting to unsettle players like the German international and further defeats would only unhinge his options to leave the club. Telling multiple friends that Jose Mourinho will come in for him next summer shows how confident the midfielder is in a move away from Arsenal.
Arsene Wenger has mentioned there are “on-going talks” about his contract extension. Although, this may not happen if Ozil is unhappy and may likely refuse his extension with the London-based side. Stating this could mean Arsenal just want to avoid speculation. But if they fail in a new agreement with Ozil, Manchester United could be doing fantastic business yet again. They could bring him in on a free transfer. Demands of high wages shouldn’t even be a problem. Costing nothing would counter the wage fees.
Monitored by Inter Milan there is interest from other European clubs but Manchester United looks like the priority. With the persuasion of a manager he once worked with a few years ago, he could be seeing himself in a Red Devils shirt this time next year.
At the moment, he can only focus on what Arsenal can still do. If he wants to earn a trophy or any silverware this season he will have to work for it. Interested in the move, Ozil could be left out of the squad more often. But could that dent his hopes of being signed by Jose Mourinho? Is Ozil that sure the Man United boss is so desperate to sign such a high-calibre player?
Mourinho could just be thinking that he will be signing a player from a Premier League rival which will just weaken Arsenal. Signing a player like Ozil could be a boost for Manchester United and the German is so sure he will be under the reign of Jose Mourinho once again next season. The future looks bleak for Ozil at Arsenal right now and it could be a strangely quiet season for him.
