Watford welcome Liverpool to Vicarage Road in the first game of the season, and we at Accumulator Tips have picked out two key bets for the game.
Watford will be quietly confident for a successful season, after seeing Marco Silva’s impressive spell at Hull they have every right to be excited. Furthermore the signing of Andre Gray is very encouraging and for only £18.6m it looks a bargain too.
Liverpool have had a good summer transfer window so far but for them it is more about keeping players than signing them. With news coming in of a rejected £90m bid for Philippe Coutinho, Liverpool fans have lots to be nervous about. However, having done the double over Watford last season, including a 6-1 thrashing at Anfield, they will be confident of getting all three points here.
Watford have had a pretty uneventful preseason with only two goals in their last four preseason matches however they were involved in five-goal thriller against Wimbledon but ended up losing 3-2. Watford’s defence has been very stubborn and looks in good form having not conceded for 360 minutes going into this game. In their six preseason games only one goal has come in the first half with the other five spread out across the second half so goals could be far and few between at Vicarage Road in the first 45 minutes.
Liverpool have been in great form going in to the Premier League season. In their last six preseason games they have only lost one game winning all their others. They lost to Atletico Madrid on penalties after drawing 1-1 in normal time. Liverpool certainly haven’t been goal shy either, they scored 22 goals in their nine preseason games. Mohamed Salah has been proving himself to be a very good signing having netted four goals. Solanke has also been in good form in front of goal having scored three goals. Overall Liverpool look very strong both defensively and in front of goal.
A very comprehensive win against Bayern Munich puts Liverpool in good stead for the start of the season. A 3-0 victory against the potentially best team in the Bundesliga is very impressive. It is vital however that they hang on to Coutinho as he was so instrumental in Liverpool’s fourth placed finish last season.
Watford v Liverpool Preview
With Liverpool in great form in front of goal it looks like a good bet to have them to score in both halves and, with William Hill offering 11/8 on the market, it could be very profitable. With Mohamed Salah in such great scoring form and a likely starter, so 11/2 with Paddy Power on him being first goalscorer is good value.
