The Top Five Signings Of The Premier League Season

The Top Five Signings Of The Premier League Season

We’re getting to that time of year where we start to review how teams have played, star performers and those that have underwhelmed. And one thing that’s always worth looking back on is how summer and January signings have performed since arriving at a club.

A big summer window will always get the bookmakers talking in a team’s favour. You only had to see the frenzy Manchester United’s signings of Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho did at the beginning of the season.

Of course, that has far from gone well for the Red Devils. But who are the players that could be considered the signings of the season? We run down our top five contenders…

Aaron Ramsdale

There were a number of question marks over this transfer, with the Gunners paying a fee of £25million for Sheffield United’s Aaron Ramsdale. But it’s certainly paid off as he’s helped solidify Arsenal’s defence and become top four contenders once again.

It was a solid move from Mikel Arteta and at just 23-years-old, they now have a long-term figure to be the presence in between the sticks. What’s more, his form has also catapulted him towards first choice for England, and we can certainly expect him to be a key figure in the World Cup at the end of the year.

Martin Odegaard

Sticking with the Gunners, we’re moving into the midfield now and Martin Odegaard, who was certainly a risky signing. Joining the club for £32million after a loan spell last term, the Norwegian youngster has taken things to the next level and has been instrumental in the creativity of Arteta’s side.

The Gunners have found their playmaker once again, and with a few more signings in the summer they could be a force to be reckoned with once again.

Jose Sa

At just £7million, Wolves have appeared to commit daylight robbery given the performances of goalkeeper Jose Sa, who arrived at the beginning of the season from Olympiacos. He’s put in some stellar performances so far this season and been instrumental in Wolves pushing for European football once again.

The Portuguese keeper has filled the boots of Rui Patricio nicely and Wolves fans are certainly happy with their new man.

Marc Guehi

Patrick Vieira will be absolutely delighted with the performances of Marc Guehi this season, who was somewhat of a wildcard signing from Chelsea. Forking out £21million for the young centre back, who has spent the last few seasons on loan at Swansea, he’s fit right into the first team at Selhurst Park and has even captained them on occasion.

He’s proven to be one of the best centre backs in the division and that’s been rewarded with an England call-up. Unbelievable work from Palace’s recruitment team.

Tino Livramento

Bought for a bargain £5million from Chelsea, Southampton have got themselves a real player in full-back Tino Livramento. He’s been a joy to watch for the Saints and it’s unlikely he’ll be sticking around at St Mary’s for very long if his form continues, with the big boys likely to approach.

Chelsea do have a buy-back clause on the Croydon born 19-year-old and we can’t wait to see how he develops. Needless to say, his next move will certainly need another zero on the fee.
