A 22 year old forward with plenty of potential doesn’t sound like a signing for Chelsea. Think Torres, Shevchenko, Crespo, Drogba etc. That’s what appears to be happening though as news broke that the Stamford Bridge club have swooped in to trump Palace and West Ham to have a £33 million bid accepted. Reports indicating medical staff have been sent to the Belgian Camp in Bordeaux indicate Antonio Conte still has one eye on his new charges whilst trying to mastermind Italian success at the euros.

The biggest question with this one is does he actually improve the Chelsea squad itself? Anytime a club used to spend £33 million there was a buzz and excitement surrounding the player. Now fans of the big premier league clubs are hoping they’re squads been strengthened and the new player can make a decent impact. This one has a feel of a decent starter but not the main act. After last seasons showings, Chelsea fans are looking for a change.

Batshuayi’s stats from 15/16 are impressive. In 50 games for the Stade Velodrome outfit a return of 23 goals and 10 assists certainly grabs your attention. The Belgian attacker has a built a reputation on his knack for scoring goals, strong but agile frame and dribbling skills. A goal against Hungary the other night with his first touch certainly drew everyone’s attention.

Conte likes to play a 3-5-2 which became his trademark at Juventus and for Italy. Diego Costa has built a fearsome reputation, sometimes more for his antics, as a lone frontman, so it’ll be interesting to see if Conte puts them in tandem. Batshuayi is a different type of forward but you’d have to wonder where Hazard and Willian fit in with that style. The Belgian playmaker especially was a shadow of himself for the champions last season and it’s no coincidence that he’s showing signs of his old form as PSG and Madrid are linked.

Talented with potential he maybe. More important they hold onto another Belgian though.
