Championship Match Result Odds & Predictions – 29-31 July, 2022
Football is back. After a short break the season returns early ahead of the Qatar World Cup, with the Championship season kicking off this weekend alongside both League One and League Two.
That gets underway on Friday, with Huddersfield hosting the relegated Burnley in what could be a big three points to get their season started. That’s followed up by a full set of fixtures across Saturday and Sunday, and plenty of games to add to your acca.
But where should you be putting your money? We run down our betting tips for the match result market on the first weekend of the Championship season…
Game of the Weekend: Huddersfield Town v Burnley
Huddersfield to beat Burnley at 7/4 with 888sport
The game of the weekend certainly opens up the Championship season. Huddersfield narrowly missed out on promotion last season and will be keen to secure a season in the Premier League come the end of May this time around. Burnley will be keen to bounce back but have lost a significant number of players since the end of the season, while also getting used to life under Vincent Kompany.
It’s going to be a difficult start for the Belgian as he looks to rebuild, and they don’t come much harder in the division than the Terriers. Burnley are just about favourites with 888sport at 31/20, but we’re backing the home side in this one at 7/4 with 888sport.
Ones To Watch
There are tons more intriguing games to back in the match result market, however. Each team will be keen to get off to a good start, while fans will want to know just where their sides are at following a summer of signings and the preseason. Here are our top tips for the rest of the opening weekend fixtures to back an accumulator with…
Wigan Athletic v Preston North End
Preston to beat Wigan at 39/20 with 888sport
Newly promoted Wigan get their campaign underway in a proper, old-fashioned Lancashire derby. It’s all set to be a real thriller and the Latics actually go into this one as favourites at 7/5 with 888sport.
Preston were comfortably mid-table last term but have made some excellent signings this summer, including Freddie Woodman, Ben Woodburn and the loan signings of Alvaro Fernandez and Troy Parrott.
That certainly signals an intent from Ryan Lowe’s men and we’re backing them to get off to an excellent start at 39/20 with the bookmaker.
Rotherham United v Swansea City
Swansea to beat Rotherham at 13/10 with 888sport
The Swans enjoyed a strong finish to the season last term and Russell Martin will certainly want to build on the progress made. The addition of Joe Allen has certainly pleased fans, with a new midfield maestro in the centre of the park.
Rotherham are back after a short spell away from the Championship and are among the relegation favourites. They can be backed at 37/20 for this one, but the South Walian club should be far too strong at 13/10 with 888sport.
Middlesbrough v West Bromwich Albion
Middlesbrough to beat West Brom at 23/20 with 888sport
Boro are among the favourites to earn promotion this season, with Chris Wilder having a great record in the division. West Brom are certainly in the chasing pack though and we could see an exciting game to kick off the season between the two.
The home side are favourites for this one at 23/20, while 888sport are offering odds of 9/4 on Steve Bruce’s men, another manager who knows how to navigate the division. Both will be up there come the end of the season, but we’re opting for home advantage in this one.
