After an action-packed weekend as well as the first Monday night game of the season, we saw goals, red cards, own goals and much more. Man United continued their dominant form and Chelsea got back on track by defeating London rivals, Tottenham. Arsenal also lost 1-0 away to Stoke City at the Bet365 stadium.
We at Accumulator Tips have picked out the best eleven players from gameweek two.
Goalkeeper – Jack Butland (Stoke City)
The English international put on a classy display in what was a 1-0 victory at home over Arsenal. Butland denied the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Danny Welbeck making a total of six saves to prevent the Gunners from getting on the scoresheet.
Left wing-back – Marcos Alonso (Chelsea)
An outstanding performance by the Spaniard, scoring two crucial goals to defeat Tottenham at Wembley Stadium. The first being a free kick from roughly 25 yards out during the 24th minute. His second came in the 88th minute assisted by Pedro. Slotting past Hugo Lloris, Marcos Alonso secured Chelsea with their first win of the season.
Left Centre-back – Harry Maguire (Leicester City)
During the 54th minute against Brighton & Hove Albion, Leicester defender Harry Maguire scored his first goal for the club. Joining in the summer from Hull City, Maguire contributed to their 2-0 victory with a header from Riyad Mahrez’s corner.
Central centre-back – Eric Bailly (Manchester United)
Ivorian defender, Eric Bailly managed to score his first-ever goal for Manchester United this past weekend. Taking part of a 4-0 win against Swansea, Bailly tapped the ball over the line after Paul Pogba’s header was tipped onto the underside of the crossbar by Swansea keeper, Lukasz Fabianski. As well as scoring, Bailly also kept a clean sheet.
Right centre-back – Ahmed Hegazi (West Brom)
The Egyptian defender appears for the second time in our team of the week after dealing with Burnley’s Sam Vokes. Hegazi made 11 clearances and dealt well with Burnley’s attacking threats. As a result, he thoroughly deserved the man-of-the-match performance.
Right wing-back – Antonio Valencia (Manchester United)
The Ecuadorian showed his defensive and attacking abilities against Swansea in their 4-0 win. He also recovered possession a total of 12 times. Consequently, using his pace and power, Valencia displayed a quality performance.
Central Midfield – Paul Pogba (Manchester United)
Playing a key role in Manchester United’s 4-0 victory against Swansea, Paul Pogba contributed with a goal and an assist. Although not counted as an assist, Pogba’s header during the 45th minute was saved by Fabianski being pushed onto the underside of the bar. Eric Bailly finished the chance. Pogba managed to score in the 82nd minute and just two minutes later he set up Anthony Martial to secure the 4-0 victory.
Central Midfield – Aaron Mooy (Huddersfield Town)
The Australian midfielder put on a fine performance against Newcastle contributing in some nice build up play before his goal. Mooy curled in a shot outside the Newcastle penalty area to secure a 1-0 win away and earned a man-of-the-match performance.
Left-wing – Jese Rodriguez (Stoke City)
The Spanish winger was placed straight into Mark Hughes’ side against Arsenal on Saturday evening. There was no messing about as the PSG loanee caused all sorts of trouble for the Arsenal defence. Just after the second half started a one-two with Saido Berahino led to a debut goal, therefore, resulting in a 1-0 victory.
Striker – Javier Hernandez (West Ham United)
Mexican forward Javier Hernandez was part of a West Ham side that lost 3-2 to Southampton. Despite the result, Little Pea managed to bag himself a brace against the Saints.
Right-wing – Sadio Mane (Liverpool)
During the 73rd minute against Crystal Palace Sadio Mane managed to latch onto a loose ball in the opposition’s area. The Senegalese winger managed to tuck the ball past Wayne Hennessey to be the only difference in a 1-0 win at Anfield.
