Premier League Young Player of the Year betting tips

For the first time since 2006, the PFA Young Player of the Year award was awarded to a player for two consecutive seasons as Tottenham’s Dele Alli romped home to his second success aged just 21.

Previous to Alli, a hugely regarded prospect named Wayne Rooney was the last player to win back-to-back awards, following 11 and 16 goal hauls at Manchester United in 04/05 and 05/06. Playing behind the striker, Alli actually managed 10 and 18 goal returns in 15/16 and 16/17 respectively.

In the Premier League era, only Robbie Fowler has achieved the feat with award wins in 94/95 and 95/96. If he can pull it off this season, Dele Alli will become the first player ever to win the illustrious prize three years on the trot.

The market for Premier League Young Player of the Year 2017/18 is now up and running with multiple bookmakers and we at Accumulator Tips have picked out five tips for success…

Dele Alli

AlligoalYou’ve read all about him already! Tottenham attacking midfielder Dele Alli has been a revelation since his £5m move from MK Dons. Alli played 33 games in his first ever Premier League season without looking for a moment out of place as he cruised towards the Young Player of the Year award.

Following a disappointing end to the season for his side, Alli and co returned with a bang the following season with raised title hopes. Although they ultimately fell short once more, Spurs were mighty impressive, particularly in 2017. Alli excelled once more, scoring 18 goals in his 37 appearances; just short of a goal every two games.

After a second successive place in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year, there’s absolutely no doubt that Dele Alli will be raring to go once more next season. Tottenham will be looking to one up their efforts of last season and Alli will almost certainly be integral to that.

Gabriel Jesus

GabrielJesusIn his eight starts and two substitute appearances for Manchester City last season, Brazilian superstar Gabriel Jesus introduced himself to Blues fans impressively with seven goals and four assists. Jesus highlighted his growing influence and sensational confidence in City’s 2-1 win over Leicester at the back end of last season, where he took the ball from City’s designated penalty taker and club legend Yaya Toure and dispatched his penalty from 12 yards.

With Sergio Aguero’s longevity and starting berth up for debate, the 20 year old looks set to play an enormous role in his side’s title ambitions. Going off the rate he scored goals at last season, with seven goals in eight starts, Jesus would have scored 33 in 38 starts. Add his four assists across those eight starts, which would’ve been 19 assists continuing at the rate, and you’ve got an incredible player on your hands.

Jesus is sure to make a big splash on the Premier League and is probably the best bet to back to win this award; it may also be wise to back him to be Top Goalscorer!

Leroy Sane

sanecityNo Germany has ever won the Young Player of the Year award and Manchester City’s Leroy Sane looks well equipped to break the mould. After taking half a season to adapt and move past injury niggles, Sane made a terrific impact on City’s second half of the season with mesmerising displays on the left flank, finishing up with nine goals in 35 appearances in all competitions.

With his place in the lineup looking reasonably assured, the 21 year old will pick up from where he left off with bamboozling, direct performances in a ferociously attack-minded Man City outfit.

With Benjamin Mendy replacing Aleksandar Kolarov in left back, Sane will be performing as part of a stronger left side this season and will fancy his chances of thriving; especially with Sergio Aguero, Gabriel Jesus, Kevin de Bruyne and more in support.

Michy Batshuayi

batshuToo often disregarded as a ‘bad signing’ and a ‘waste of money’ last season, Michy Batshuayi has become somewhat of a catch for his entertaining social media displays. Unfortunately, his displays on the pitch have been limited and restricted due to the preference of Diego Costa in Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3 formation.

The Belgian striker was only granted one start out of a possible 38 last season and played just 239 minutes of Premier League football. Nevertheless, his impact in those minutes was rather underrated. Batshuayi chipped in with five goals, averaging a goal just short of every 48 minutes.

In his maiden season at Marseille, Batshuayi managed nine goals in 26 appearances before going onto score 17 in 36 the season after; one goal short of a goal every two games.

With Diego Costa set to leave, Premier League newcomer Alvaro Morata his only competiton uptop and an impressive pre-season campaign under his belt, Batshuayi is certainly capable of having a high scoring season with the champions and putting himself in the running for Young Player of the Year.

John Stones

stonesyOur boldest selection rests with Manchester City’s £50m defender John Stones, who will have a steep learning curve following a weak first season under Pep Guardiola. In truth, Stones wasn’t the sole reason for some horrific defensive displays, but he certainly didn’t come close to justifying his price tag.

Barnsley born Stones will be buoyed by the arrival of Ederson in goal, who looks set to displace shaky Claudio Bravo and replace Willy Caballero, who was released and subsequently joined Chelsea. The former Everton defender possessed remarkable passing and offensive statistics last season, but was often let down by individual errors on his part and limp goalkeeping behind him.

The 23 year old will also be supported by new teammates Kyle Walker, Benjamin Mendy and Danilo rather than Pablo Zabaleta, Bacary Sagna, Aleksandar Kolarov and Gael Clichy this season, and the signs from pre-season were exciting to say the least. Heavy wins over Real Madrid and Tottenham saw Stones get on the scoresheet twice, while only conceding one goal across 180 minutes.

Provided he can cut out his mistakes, along with showing exceptional courage and leadership, Stones can play an enormous part in this attacking Man City side being successful and is worth a punt to be Young Player of the Year at a huge price.
